Psychiatrist Details

• Full Time & Part Time Schedules Available
• 8 hour shifts available
• Contract Position

Psychiatrist Duties

• Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluations: Conducting thorough assessments of individuals to diagnose mental health conditions, including severe mental illnesses, substance use disorders, personality disorders, and trauma-related conditions. This includes reviewing medical and psychiatric histories, conducting mental status examinations, and gathering collateral information.
• Treatment Planning: Developing individualized and evidence-based treatment plans tailored to the specific needs of each patient within the limitations and context of the correctional setting. This involves setting achievable goals and outlining interventions.
• Psychopharmacological Management: Prescribing, administering, and monitoring psychotropic medications. This requires careful consideration of potential side effects, drug interactions, and the unique challenges of medication adherence and management in a secure environment.
• Psychotherapy and Counseling: Providing individual and, where appropriate, group therapy to address a range of mental health concerns. This may involve various therapeutic modalities adapted for the correctional population, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) informed approaches, and crisis intervention techniques.
• Crisis Intervention: Responding to acute psychiatric emergencies, including suicidal ideation or attempts, psychotic episodes, and acute agitation. This involves rapid assessment, de-escalation, and implementation of appropriate safety measures.
• Management of Co-occurring Disorders: Addressing the frequent co-occurrence of mental health and substance use disorders through integrated treatment approaches.
• Accurate Record Keeping: Maintaining detailed, timely, and confidential medical records in accordance with legal and institutional standards.
• Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration: Working closely with a team of mental health professionals (psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses), medical staff, and correctional officers to coordinate patient care, ensure safety, and develop holistic treatment approaches.
• Consultation: Providing expert psychiatric consultation to other healthcare providers and correctional staff regarding inmate mental health issues, management strategies, and appropriate levels of care.
• Report Writing: Preparing psychiatric reports for various purposes, including court-ordered evaluations, parole board hearings, and internal facility reviews.
• Participation in Treatment Team Meetings: Actively participating in regular meetings to discuss patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and address emerging issues.
• Other job duties as assigned

Psychiatrist Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited educational institution
• Licensed as a Psychiatrist by the State in which the position is located. The license MUST be in good standing
• 1+ years of relevant Psychiatrist experience
