Registered Dietitian (RD)
Are you ready for a FRESH START? We can help! Currently, we are looking for a part time Registered Dietitian (RD) to work for a 12-month term at Senior Centers in Manassas and Woodbridge, VA.
Position Days & Hours: Part-time (14 hours per week min) -The RD may be scheduled for up to four (4) days per week Monday through Friday; no weekends. Specific days are to be agreed on by the RD and Site-Managers.
The position hours will be between 9am and 2pm.
The Registered Dietitian (RD) will work at the Senior Centers in Manassas and Woodbridge, report to the Site-Managers of those facilities. The RD shall provide guidance to the Senior Center kitchen staff to ensure that meals fall within nutritional guidelines and will monitor client records and program functions such as meal records and assessments.
Monitoring Kitchens: The RD shall check and monitor directly operated kitchens.
Monitoring Meal Preparation: The RD shall provide guidance to the Senior Center kitchen staff to ensure that meals fall within nutritional guidelines which may include portion control and the serving of food, checking temperatures taken by site staff, compliance with the sanitary code, condition of equipment, handling of leftovers, serving of meals, and participant satisfaction.
The RD will also monitor the Home Delivered Meal Delivery.
Menu Planning: The RD shall review menus considering participant preferences and meal satisfaction, dietary needs, dietary guidelines, food suitability, and cost. The RD shall also review menus and perform nutrient analyses or complete meal pattern worksheets to verify that meals comply with guidelines, nutrient requirements, and are appropriate for the program and participants.
Nutrition Education Development: The RD shall develop or review and approve nutrition information (handouts and/or presentations) and develop an annual plan. The RD shall provide group nutrition presentations at congregate sites.
Congregate and HDM Nutrition Counseling: The RD shall review the Nutrition Screening Instrument and assess an average of eight (8) individual clients’ nutrition needs per week in one-on-one counseling sessions. Contacts may be brief or extensive. The RD may direct other appropriately trained staff, students, interns, or volunteers in client counseling.
Administration: The RD shall prepare reports on monitoring activities, findings, recommendations, and nutrition education and counseling units of service. Shall attend staff meetings to review monitoring activities, provide technical assistance on program development and comment on program policies and procedures. The RD shall also provide technical assistance and training in food service practices, food and equipment specifications, sanitary code, new products, production efficiency, staff requirements, kitchen plans and the nutritional needs of the elderly.
Diet Prescription Review: The RD shall evaluate the appropriateness of diet orders, if any, and determine the type of diet to be provided by the program.
Registered Dietitian Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree at a US regionally accredited university or college and course work accredited or approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
Completed an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program at a health-care facility, community agency, or a food service corporation or combined with undergraduate or graduate studies, and
Passed the national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
Completed 75 hours continuing professional educational requirements every 5 years to maintain registration.
