PCP Details

PCP Duties
- Comprehensive Examinations: Performing complete physical examinations for new intakes and on an ongoing basis. This includes collecting comprehensive medical and social histories.
- Diagnosis and Treatment: Diagnosing and treating a wide variety of acute and chronic medical conditions, illnesses, and injuries. This involves ordering appropriate diagnostic tests (e.g., EKGs, X-rays, lab work) and interpreting the results.
- Medication Management: Prescribing and administering medications, including those for detoxification from substances like alcohol, opiates, and benzodiazepines. This also involves managing refills and ensuring adherence to medication regimens.
- Chronic Disease Management: Providing ongoing care for individuals with chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, HIV, and Hepatitis C. This includes developing and monitoring integrated treatment plans.
- Urgent and Emergency Care: Responding to medical emergencies (“codes”) and providing immediate care for acute conditions and injuries. This may involve performing minor surgical procedures like suturing, incision and drainage, debridement, and complex wound care.
- Preventive Care: Administering immunizations and providing patient education on health promotion, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Referrals: Referring inmates to specialist consultants (e.g., cardiology, oncology, surgery) and coordinating follow-up care when necessary. Arranging for hospitalization at community facilities when an inmate’s condition exceeds the facility’s capabilities.
- Pain Management: Assessing and managing acute and chronic pain in accordance with established medical practices and security protocols.
- Women’s Health: Providing or coordinating gender-specific care for female inmates.
- End-of-Life Care: Managing palliative and end-of-life care for terminally ill inmates.
- Other job duties as assigned
PCP Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited educational institution
- Licensed as a Primary Care Physician (PCP) by the State in which the position is located. The license MUST be in good standing
- 1+ year of relevant Primary Care Physician (PCP) experience
